Greetings!
My name is Brent Frey and I have been covering Winning Smiles Orthodontics for the last few months.
It has been my sincere pleasure to provide treatment for you and your family in the absence of our
beloved, Dr. Derek E. Brown. As you know, Dr. Brown passed away in December. He will be missed
dearly by his friends, family, and extended family--including his staff and patients. Dr. Brown leaves
behind a legacy that goes without saying. There are health care providers who treat their patients like
clients, and those that treat their patients like family. I did not know Dr. Brown, but his impact on the
community was evident immediately. His are big shoes to fill!
Most of you are wondering who I am. You’ve probably asked the staff, asked your general dentists, and
looked me up on the Internet. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the circumstances, there has been
little time to thoroughly introduce myself during office hours. I would like to take this opportunity to tell
you a little about my experience, my philosophy, and myself.
I completed my orthodontic residency at Howard University in 2010. After graduation, I began working
at Maryland Orthodontics with Drs. Henry DiLorenzo and Kenneth Hrechka. I have spent the last seven
years at Maryland Orthodontics, honing my skills and preparing to have a practice of my own. My
interest in orthodontics began in middle school, when my brother completed orthodontic treatment.
Having identified my calling that early, I was afforded more than a dozen years to build pre-work
experience attending dental conferences, summer programs, and volunteer opportunities.
I began shaping my philosophy on orthodontic care long before I entered dental school. My uncle is a
general dentist in Highland Park, Michigan, and he has provided much of the foundation for that
philosophy. Providing orthodontic care is a privilege and a responsibility. Each case is treatment
planned individually with the goal of creating positive, long lasting results. I strive to be an advocate for
my patients with my primary role being an educator—you should know what is going on, what we can
do about it, and why we should do whatever it is we decide to do. You should feel confident in the
business we transact. Most importantly, I want you and your family to feel comfortable in my office,
and enjoy the experience of orthodontic treatment.
I grew up in Novi, Michigan, outside of Detroit. Most of my family is there. My parents worked in the
automotive industry. They taught me to work hard and with integrity. I attended the University of
Michigan for college and dental school. As a youngster, I played football, soccer, baseball, ran track and
wrestled. At Michigan, I walked on to the varsity wrestling team my junior year. Currently, I play golf,
bike, and enjoy photography. I met the love of my life two years ago, and we are engaged to be wed
this fall! My fiancé is a sports fan as well and we love to attend big games! Below is a picture of my
fiancé Cheri, and me with some friends at the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament Finals—Go Blue!
We have a nine-month-old Miniature Pinscher named Mr. Big. I am very blessed and give all thanks and
glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
So now you know who I am and what I’m about. That being said, I fully expect you to still be asking,
“Isn’t he a little young? Does he know what he’s doing?” It’s ok, I get that ALL THE TIME! To squelch
your fear and satisfy your curiosity, I have included a brief album of before and after photographs of
cases that I previously completed. I hope that they are helpful!
My intention is to acquire Winning Smiles Orthodontics. My goal is to honor the legacy of Dr. Brown by
continuing to make an impact on my patients and my community. I look forward growing with you and
your family, and providing excellent orthodontic care!
Sincerely,
Brent Frey, DDS
