Cell City “Travel Brochure” Project – Assignment Sheet
Objective:
•
Due to the recent increase in gas prices, studies have shown that people have become less likely to
travel. Knowing this fact, ICTA, the International Cell Tourism Association has decided to take the
opportunity to advertise and hopefully increase human vacations to their only attractions…cells. Your
job is to create a travel brochure that highlights and advertises the different parts of the cell.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Directions / Requirements:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Choose the “type” of cell to advertise and create a brochure for. Possibilities include: beach resort,
factory, amusement park, island…
Discuss/include a minimum of five cell structures. Some possibilities include but are not limited too:
o Nucleus
o Lysosomes
o Mitochondria
o Endoplasmic Reticulum
o Cell Membrane
o Golgi Apparatus
o Cytoplasm
o Ribosomes
Create an analogy between the cell structure and the job of something at your destination (Example:
Town Hall = Nucleus). Write a description of what is done at the location and list the cell structure in
parenthesis.
o Town Hall: Be sure to stop here first! This is where all the information about Cell City can be
found. Also this is where Mayor Eukayto resides. If your lucky maybe you’ll meet him!
(nucleus)
o Your analogy needs to make sense in relation to the cell structure it is supposed to represent. You
will be graded on creativity but also on accuracy!
o Another Analogy Example:
If I were describing a cell to be like a castle, I would describe the gate around the castle as a
double layered wall with guards that patrol and control who comes in and out. (This would be an
analogy for the cell (plasma) membrane).
Include a map or diagram of your location. May be made on the computer or drawn. Be sure that it is
neat, organized and includes a key.
Choose your cell type:
Plant or Animal cell
o Paper brochure – Create a brochure similar to those which advertize for other resorts. Include a
map and descriptions as well as other creative features.
Be sure your final product is neat, organized, and eye-catching. Also double check for grammar and
spelling mistakes.
•
This project will count as a 100 point grade! Be sure to review the attached rubric so you
understand how the project will be graded. Be creative BUT be sure to stay on point and
remember that the key to a good grade are clear analogies between the location and the cell part.
•
Your name, date and section should be on the back cover of the brochure.
•
All brochure information should be typed or neatly printed in pen.
•
Your brochure must contain pictures to help grab the attention of your audience. Hand drawn pictures
are preferable. These pictures should reflect what the actual organelles look like or what their function is
in the cell. If you use any pictures from the internet, you must properly cite your source in the correct
format.
