Nervous System A neuron is a nerve cell. It is responsible for sending messages from parts of the body to the brain, or from the brain to parts of the body. Below is a neuron Neurons make up nerve tissue, like the tissue of the brain. Nerve tissue is responsible for providing sensitivity in an area of the body. Those senses send messages to the brain. Below you will find a plastic model of the brain. The brain is responsible for sending and receiving all the signals that make the organs of our bodies function properly. The brain is why we blink, breathe and our hearts beat without thinking about it or being able to really stop it for very long. The brain is also responsible for thinking, dreaming, learning and more. The Nervous system is responsible for sensing everything we sense and all the things that make our body work properly and protect us from our environment. The nervous system is why we can tell hot and cold, hard or soft, see, talk, cry etc. Below is a very rough picture of the nervous system. In reality the nervous system goes almost everywhere blood does.
