Dessert Menu Items
Word Magic:
Make the words disappear. Write the word once, then write it a
second time without the first letter, then write it without the
first two letters. Repeat until the whole word disappears!

Telephone Words:
Write each spelling word. Then translate each word into
numbers from a telephone keypad.
Example: Spell is 77355
Acrostic Poem:
Choose 3 words and create an acrostic poem.

Create a secret code for ½ of your list. Give your words to your
friend. Challenge them to crack your code!

Appetizer Items
2 Color Words:
Write each spelling word with vowels in one color and
consonants in another color.
ABC Order:
Write your spelling words in alphabetical order.
Variation: Write them in reverse ABC order.
Silly Sentences:
Write 10 silly sentences using 2 spelling words in each
sentence. Variation: Write a short silly story using all of your
spelling words.
Block Spell:
Write each spelling word draw a line around the word to show
its shape.
Example: Spell
Story or Poem:
Write a short story or poem using as many spelling words as
you can from your list.
Main Course Items
Adding Words:
Add up the letters of your spelling words. Consonants are
worth 10 and vowels are worth 5.
Example: cat= 10+5+10= 25
Look It Up:
Use an online or paper dictionary to look up your words. Write
the word, a short definition, the part of speech and the
guidewords from the page (if applicable).
Example: Spell- to verbally say the letters of a word- verb Sail/Top
Ransom Words:
Write 10 of your spelling words by cutting out the letters from
a newspaper or magazine and gluing them to a piece of paper.
Pyramid Words:
Write the first letter of the spelling word. Write the first two
letters of the word below it. Then write the next three letters,
etc. Example:
Synonym or Antonym:
Write the spelling word then write either a synonym (marked
with “S” or an antonym (marked with “A”) beside it.
Example: Happy and Cheerful (S)
