GUGInfo 2010/36 Call for Applications _______ A World without Walls 2010 "An International Conference on Peace building, Reconciliation and Globalization in an Interdependent World" (Berlin, 6th - 10th November 2010) Held on the 21st Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall ________ Dear Friends & Colleagues, On behalf of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, it is my distinct pleasure to write to you to bring to your attention the next major conference being hosted by the ICD and other leading organizations: A World Without Walls 2010: "An International Conference on Peace building, Reconciliation and Globalization in an Interdependent World" (Berlin, 6th – 10th November 2010) www.world-without-walls.org As the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy’s flagship annual event, ‘A World without Walls 2010’ presents a unique opportunity to join a large group of speakers and participants in celebration of this historic event. Attendees will participate in lectures, discussions and seminars led by experts from the fields of international politics, academia and civil society. Confirmed speakers include current and former heads of states and ministers, as well as leaders of academic institutions and non-governmental organizations. The program will consist of lectures and seminars held by leading figures from international politics, academia, international development, and civil society, as well as debates and panel discussions. In addition to attending the academic components, participants will have the opportunity to experience Berlin’s rich cultural landscape and network with each other through a series of cultural and social events. The event is scheduled parallel to the historic international celebrations taking place in Berlin on November 9th, commemorating 21 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. On the evening of Tuesday, 9th September, participants will have the unique opportunity to celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall on the streets of Berlin. Conference Participants The conference participants will include young professionals, students and scholars, civil society practitioners, private sector representatives, journalists, and other interested stakeholders from across the world. This certificate will confirm attendance and provide details of the speakers who took part during the program and the topics discussed. Participant Papers The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy encourages research and progressive thought into the fields of culture, globalization and international relations. In this regard, the ICD welcomes participants of the Conference to submit papers on this subject. The papers can cover any topic within these fields, according to your own particular interests and passions. Participants can submit work that they have completed in the past for other purposes, ongoing research or a paper written specifically for the conference. Groups of students are also allowed to submit collaborative pieces of work. Conference Book Upon completion of the conference, The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy will publish a conference book including the proceedings and activities of the conference. This book will include a number of different components: Introductory Essay by ICD’s Director and Advisory Board Members The Conference Report and Summary Conference Papers and Lectures from the Speakers The Revised and Edited Participant Papers Special Interviews with the Speakers and Participants A Photo Gallery of the entire event including social activities and a group photo of all of the conference speakers and participants Once published, the book will be distributed to the entire ICD Advisory Board, ICD Members and the wider global network of ICD partners around the world. This will enable a much wider audience to benefit from the conference and it will archive this historic gathering and opportunity for dialogue and exchange.
