*Ectotherms with dry, scaly skin.
* Live most of their lives on land.
*Snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and alligators are examples of reptiles.
1. Types of Reptiles
A) Turtles have a hard shell used for protection.
B) Alligators and crocodiles are predators that live on or near water.
C) Large reptiles live in warmer climates.
D) Snakes and lizards make up the largest and most developed group of reptiles.
2) Reptile Adaptations
A) Thick, dry, waterproof skin is covered with scales to help reduce water loss and
also helps with protection.
B) All reptiles have lungs that allow them to breathe while living on land.
C) Even reptiles that can stay under water for long periods of time, must come to the
surface so they can breathe.
D) The Amniotic Egg is a moist protective environment that the
embryo develops in.
E) Reptile egg shells are leathery which helps protect the embryo.
