Reptile Description Reptiles have lungs, a special type of egg, have scaly skin, and are vertebrates. Their scales are made of hard dead cells that the same tough substance found in your fingernails. This waterproof skin makes it impossible to breathe through its scales. Kidneys concentrate nitrogen-containing waste products, little water is lost when wastes are eliminated. It depends on how big the animal is. Natural habits of a Bird • A bird eats with its beak and most eat soft things that’ll slide straight through their throats, such as worms, mice, and other small rodents, butterflies or bugs. Birds use their claws to catch food and make their nests.
