Build An Atom
Problem: You have learned about the people who developed a picture of
what atoms look like and you have learned the pats of an atom. Now, create
an atom. Use craft materials to design and produce your own model of an
atom.
Worth: 30 pts.
Possible Materials:
small balls
glue
small Styrofoam balls
floral foam
craft wire
small pompoms
large styrofoam balls
foam
ping pong balls
Directions:
1. You will be assigned an element.
2. You will then:
* On a separate sheet of paper you will list
everything you know about protons, neutrons, and
electrons, and their behavior for your particular
element. You will also draw the atomic structure
for that element.
* You will then create a model of your atom
showing the electrons in their energy levels,
protons, neutrons, and the nucleus. You will also
have to identify the protons and neutrons located in
the nucleus, and the electrons located outside the
nucleus on a small key attached to your model.
*You can make your model free standing or
mounted on a firm construction board.
HONORS: Period 1 only
