THEOLOGY II
STUDY GUIDE for Lecture Exam on Anthropology
What is biblical anthropology and how does it differ from anthropology elsewhere in
the curriculum (e.g., cultural anthropology)?
What is the view that man is a machine? An animal? An economic being? An
absurdity?
What is day age theory and what are the problems with it? How, for example, is
the Hebrew word yom used? What are the other problems with the day age view?
What are creationist objections to theistic evolution?
How might the first law of thermodynamics pose a problem for an evolutionary
view? How is the second law of thermodynamics a problem?
What is the problem with the view that the universe explodes then pulls in on itself
and explodes again in multi-billion year cycles? (Note that such a view would not
require a God to begin the universe.) [Hint: one problem is that there is not
enough material in the universe for it to pull itself back together.]
What problematic assumptions does radiometric dating make?
What are implications that the human race came from one source, i.e., is “unified”?
1

As to the image of God, what are the substantive, relational, and functional
views? What are the advantages and criticisms of each?
What are the views of the relationship between body and soul? Describe “realistic
dualism.”
In what way does Scripture indicate that men and women are equally humans?

What is the significance of the word “helper” as it describes the woman?
What does the Bible tells us regarding fertility and infertility as it relates to God’s
activity?
Why does the Bible not mention abortion?
What is the issue in Exodus 21:22-25 regarding abortion? What are the supports
for the view that the passage is talking about a live birth?
