Notre Dame School Council Minutes of November 18, 2014 PRESENT: Father Louis Sheri-Lynn Heighington Kim Pekrul Kim Skin RECORDER: Jeannette Shaw 1) Adoption of Agenda: Motion: Sheri-Lynn Heighington To adopt the Agenda as circulated. Sister Connie Kathy Mould Dianne Lowe Cathy Clement Charmaine Moeller Terri Haynal Jeannette Shaw Second: Kim Skin Carried. 2) Minutes of October 21st, 2014: Motion: Sheri-Lynn Heighington Second: Kim Skin To adopt the Minutes of October 21st, 2014 as amended. Carried. 3) Correspondence: Sabrina’s email. Read by Kathy Mould. 4) Old Business: Teacher’s wish list for Christmas Gifts: Sheri-Lynn Heighington will make a Christmas present voucher for each staff member to take into one of the four stores including Olde Creek Store, B&T, Northern Toy Box and Simple Pleasures towards a purchase of their choice. Signs for Parking Lot: They are here and ready to be displayed. A thank you note will be sent to the family who purchased the signs. 5) Financial Report: Charmaine Moeller. Sent via e-mail. Motion: Jeannette Shaw Second: Kim Pekrul That the Financial Report be accepted as circulated. Carried. 6) Committee Reports Staff Representative: Cathy Clement, Grade 1. Cathy explained to us how she is enjoying the new religion program with the use of the book called Alive in Christ. It will work like a “thread” from Kindergarten throughout grade 7. It is interactive for the children and there is a Family and Faith section at the end of each unit. It is well thought out and working well in her classroom. She brought in tools that she is using in her classroom including a handout explaining break the number apart and Power of 10 Cards. Her students have a reading buddy with the grade 4 students and it is working well. She said that the teachers have taken over the recycling program. CIS Report: Sister Connie. A teleconference was held this morning and there was discussion regarding the duties of the CIS rep. Maintenance and Repairs: Doug Becotte has built a special desktop with a 45 degree angle to help a student with their studies and it is working very well. Discussion regarding new holes to be made in the gym floor to enable 2 volleyball nets in the gym. Lidia Arndt is working with the installer of the floor on this project. Admissions: Kim Skin. We now have 227 students. Staffing: Sheri-Lynn Heighington. Miss Malkinson will stay with the Grade 2 class until Christmas and the new Grade 2 teacher will start in January 2015. Public Relations: Kim Skin: Sent via e-mail. Parent Support Group: Kim Pekrul. Sent via e-mail. Parish/School Council Liaison: Dianne Lowe. Nothing to report. 7) Principal’s Report: Terri Haynal. To accept all reports as presented. 8) NEW BUSINESS: The secretary will update the School Hand Book. The Website will also be updated. 9) Next Meeting: Tuesday January 20th, 2015 at 6:30 pm. Part 1- That the Principal and Teachers receive a 2% raise, retroactive to September 1st, 2014 to be processed as soon as CIS is able. Part 2- That as of January 1st, 2015 there will be another increase of 1.25%. This motion will be confirmed after speaking with Chris Dugdale. Please note: November 27, 2015: After consultation with Chris Dugdale and the CIS board the following was change was recommended: Motion: Sheri-Lynn Heighington Second Charmaine Moeller Carried. The amended motion read: That the principal and teachers receive a 3.25% increase in salary starting January 1, 2015. Kathy Mould will send a letter requesting Lynn Monteith carry out School Council’s wishes. Motion: Jeannette Shaw Second: Sheri-Lynn Heighington Carried. st That Fem Cruz receives a $2.50/hour raise effective the 1 day of the next pay period. 11) Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
