Period ____ Homework Project
Instructions: Using materials that resemble a cell and cell organelles, construct a model of
either a plant or an animal cell. You may use any materials you like, but IT IS NOT
NECESSARY TO BUY SPECIAL ITEMS FOR THIS PROJECT. You may use everyday,
household objects for cell parts. Your materials may be edible, but they must be able to
remain fresh without refrigeration for 3 days! Make a key or labels to the cell parts, and
their functions to explain your model.
Example of label:
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of the cell
Basic REQUIREMENTS
Each






model must include all of the following organelles:
Cell membrane

Nucleus

Cytoplasm

Endoplasmic reticulum

Golgi Bodies

Ribosomes
Mitochondria
Vacuoles
Lysosomes (if animal cell)
Chloroplasts (if plant cell)
Cell Wall (if plant cell)
additional REQUIREMENTS








Include your name and period on your project
Identify the cell type (Tell if it is a plant or an animal cell)
The model must be 3-dimensional (not a drawing done on paper or parts just painted on
a styrofoam ball)
Your organelles must be reasonably accurately represented in scale (size) and
structure.
Label all cell parts or use a key to list cell parts
Extra credit presentation:
You may be as artistic, creative, and humorous as you like.
You may use the notes from class or internet or other resources as much as needed.
Remember to see student samples in class and use worksheets with cell diagrams.
Completed model is DUE FRIDAY JUNE 3RD !!
NO LATE CELL MODELS EXCEPT ABSENT STUDENTS!
