за темою: “Inventions and discoveries”
Lesson topic: Inventions and discoveries
Objectives:
1. to practice pupils’ skills using the vocabulary about inventions and
discoveries;
2. to expand pupils’ knowledge about inventions and discoveries;
3. to stimulate pupils’ thinking;
4. to develop pupils’ reading and speaking skills
5. to motivate pupil’s cognitive and creative thinking
Equipment: blackboard, handouts, classroom equipment
Procedure
I. Warming-up
Greeting
T. – Good morning, students!
Ss. – Good morning, teacher!
T. – Nice to meet you!
Ss. – Nice to meet you, too!
T. – What a lovely day! I hope you all are ready to work, so let’s start!
Lead-in
T. – We have already discussed the difference between “invention” and
“discovery”. Do you remember the definition of “invention”?
Ss. – Yes, it is something new; something created by a person; something that
people use etc.
T. – Can you remind me what discovery is?
Ss. – It is something that existed in the nature and someone discovered it for the
first time.
T. – Can you name me some examples of invention?
Ss. – Computer, mobile phone, satellite dish ……etc.
T. – Can you name some examples of discoveries?
Ss. – Penicillin, gravity, gold …. etc.
T. – You’ ve received a sheet of paper with the task. Match the people to their
discoveries.

T. – Read the title and the text quickly and complete the summary.
Sir Alexander Fleming
The discovery of penicillin (1928)

T. – Great job! Did you meet it any difficulties doing this task? Can you answer the
following questions? How many nouns did you have to make?
Ss. – 4 nouns, possibility, discovery, infection(s) and scientists.
T. – You’ve right! Next question: which answers were adverbs?
Ss. – accidentally and successfully!
T. – You’ve absolutely right! And the last question: which words required a
prefix?
Ss. – Expect, it required a prefix “un” to give the negative meaning to the
adjective.
T. – It’s absolutely correct.
III. Summing-up. Home assignment.
T. – I hope you’ve liked today’s lesson. You’ve done a great job and you receive
marks for your work!. Your home task is to choose one of the most important
discoveries and make a mini-project about it. You can prepare it in form of Power
Point presentation.
