Early Ming government was committed to the essential well-being of the ordinary Chinese. Later emperors,
however, forgot their ancestors’ humble origins and proved less attuned to the popular will. The Ming fell
in 1644 to the Manzhou invaders from the northeast, who emerged as emperors of the Qing Dynasty.
