Lesson Plan 72
Subject: Geometry
Date: February 25th, 2008
SOL Objectives: G3, G9
Sponge Activities: The activity will include review problems about Trigonometry
parallel lines, special triangles, parallelograms and will include questions from a released
Sol.
Introduction: I will check the homework from last friday. I shall ask the students how
they could guarantee that a figure with a length of 12 and a width of 48 is a rectangle?
Direct Teaching: Today we will discuss Rhombi and squares Chapter 8.5
Properties of a Rhombus
Rhombus - is a quadrilateral with all four sides congruent. All of the properties of a
parallelogram can be applied to a rhombus plus three other characteristics:
The diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular
Each diagonal of a rhombus bisects a pair of opposite angles.
Square a quadrilateral with four right angles and four sides that are congruent.
Squares have all of the properties of parallelograms. They have all the same properties of
a rectangle and have hall the same properties of a rhombus.
Guided Practice: We will work on a hand out from page 434 Practice and Apply.
Independent Practice:
The above work will be used for the independent practice as well.
Assessment:
I will use directed questioning to assess understanding.
Closure: I will summarize the lesson by reviewing information that was presented in
class.
