Journey to the Center of the Earth Imagine taking a journey to the center of the Earth. That’s what happens in a novel written by Jules Verne in 1864. At that time, scientists knew almost nothing about Earth’s interior. Was it solid or hollow? Hot or cold? People speculated widely. Verne’s novel, called Journey to the Center of the Earth, describe the adventures of a scientific expedition to explore a hollow Earth. On the way, the explorers follow caves and tunnels down to a strange sea lit by a miniature sun. Develop your own story about taking a journey to the center of the earth. We now know a great deal about the Earth’s interior so your story should be scientifically accurate. Describe what happens as you travel through the Earth. What layers do you travel through? Make sure you include all of the layers in your story. How long does each take? What distance did you have to travel? You may be creative but base your creativity on reality.
