Students will study the following economic topics: Basic economic concepts, economic performance and measurement, aggregate supply and demand, fiscal policy, monetary policy, supply, demand and equilibrium, theory of the firm, and the role of government. Economics is the capstone course of students 4 years in social studies at MVHS. This course builds on the student’s pervious experiences in history, geography, psychology, and civics. Economics is a required course to graduate high school. Course Topics: Foundations of Economics Basic Economic Concepts (3 weeks) Week 1: Introduction, Freakonomics & All About Me Week 2: chapter 1 Scarcity & Decision making Week 3: chapter 17 Absolute and Comparative Advantage Unit 1 Exam Microeconomics: 7 weeks Week 3: Chapter 3 Business Organizations Week 4: Chapter 4 Demand & Elasticity Week 6: Chapter 5 Supply and Total Costs Week 7: Chapter 6 Equilibrium and Price Controls Week 8: Chapter 7 Competitive Structure Unit 2 Exam Week 9: Chapter 3 Business Organizations Week 10: Chapter 7 Competitive Structure Midterm & Final Exam Project Macroeconomics: 3 weeks Week 11: Chapter 13 Measuring the Nation’s Economy (GDP) Week 12: Chapter 14 Unemployment & Inflation Unit 3 Exam Week 13: Chapter 15 Federal Reserve System & Monetary Policy Week 14: Chapter 16 Achieving Economic Stability & Fiscal Policy Unit 4 Exam Week 15: Final Exam week Midterm & Final Exam Project Classroom Expectations: All rules and regulations of the Saddleback Valley Unified School District Student Handbook will be applied in class. Please refer to your handbook if you have any questions. SVUSD.K12.CA.US Grading: Students will be graded using the traditional grading scale: A+ = 99% and above A = 93% and above A- + 90% and above B+ = 89.5% and above B = 83% and above B- = 80% and above C+ = 79.5 % and above C = 73% and above C- = 70% and above D+ = 69.5% and above D = 63% and above D- = 59.5% and above F = 59.4% and below Assignments: A plethora of learning assessment tools will be used to determine a student’s grade in this class. Listed below is an example of the value (%) each type of assignment might have in this class. To be successful in this class a student should demonstrate proficiency in all areas. 1. Daily 101 (academic vocabulary, Cornell notes & special assignments) 20% 2. Discussion Posts 10% 3. Internet Activities 15% 4. Non-Essay/Essays (cooperative group work, written & presentations) 10% 5. Quizzes (undetermined amount) 15% 7. Unit Exams (midterm) 15% 8. Final Exam Project (project based) 15% Homework Policy: I do not have homework as a component of this class. Your student should never say they have homework. Tutorial Policy: All my students are invited to attend tutorial at their leisure. Students may not bring a friend from a non-wiemann class. Tuesday tutorials are restricted for students making up quizzes or test. Late Work Policy: I will not accept any assignment late! Students are encouraged to make up any test that has been missed. Late Exams and Quizzes will be made up in a special tutorial period (1st tutorial of the week only!) I participate in fair grading practices Learning Expectations: Please bring the following materials on a daily basis:Keep your device in good shape and you’ll be fine. Behavioral Expectations: I encourage you to bring a snack and something to drink to class. However, anything you bring to eat needs to end up in the trash when finished. Failure to comply will result in the loss of snacking privileges as a class. Please do not ask to go to the food machines during class, as I will say NO! If you break your device, you are responsible for its replacement. It is like losing a book I reserve the right to grade for credit any assignments I choose.
