Some History about Serbia
 Serbia was conquered by the Romans in the 2nd century BC.
 The Serbian Kingdom was founded by Srefan Nemanja in 1170.During his reign
the Serbian state achieved strong territorial and cultural expansion.
 For about five centuries (14th-19th centuries) Serbia was kept under rule of the
Ottoman Empire.
 The Kingdom of Serbia was formed in 1882.
 The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in 1914 was the
pretext for the attack on Serbia and resulted in the outbreak of the First
World War.
 The kingdom of Yugoslavia was formed (including Croatia and Slovania).
 During WWII, Serbia fought on the side of the Allies.
 Tito, considered as a benevolent dictator, ruled Serbia from 1945 to 1980.
 The civil war (from 1991 to 1995) ended in the breakup of Yugoslavia.
 In 1992, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (comprising Serbia and
Montenegro) was formed.
 In 2006, Serbia became an independent country and the new constitution of
the republic of Serbia was adopted.
