1. What does the FITT principle stand for?
F _________________
(frequency: how often a week)
I _________________
(intensity: how hard)
T _________________
(time: how long/how many repetitions)
T _________________
(type: what kind?)
Remember: the FITT principle is used in making a plan to improve someone’s
test scores or fitness level. Any plan should include all 4 portions of
FITT.
2. What are the 5 components of fitness? (order does not matter!)
__________________
(muscular strength; short and powerful
exercise-- pull-ups/sprinting, etc.)
__________________
(muscular endurance;long-lasting exercise—
mile run, curl-ups (over 30 seconds))
__________________
(flexibility; range of motion--stretching)
__________________
(cardiorespiratory endurance; exercise
pushing the aerobic level—mile run,
hard basketball or soccer games, wrestling,
etc.)
__________________
(body composition; ratio of muscle to fat—
carrying extra weight affects muscular
strength, muscular endurance, cardiorespiratory endurance events ONLY IF a
person is overweight! There are 2 ways to
maintain a healthy weight: 1) eat a balanced
diet 2) exercise often
3. protein provides the nutrients necessary for building muscle and other body tissues
carbohydrates and fats provide the nutrients necessary for long lasting exercise
(carbohydrates are used first; fats are used last)
you should drink water often throughout the day to avoid dehydration
4. the lungs are part of the respiratory system
the heart and blood vessels are part of the circulatory system
5. aerobic means having enough oxygen on hand
anaerobic means not having enough oxygen on hand
When the body exercises, the heart rate increases; you breathe more quickly (in order
to get more oxygen into the blood), and the heart beats more often, putting a greater
volume of blood throughout the body so that there is more oxygen going out.
