The Corvallis Planning Commission
Commissioners:
The Corvallis Chamber of Commerce’s Business Advocacy
Committee would like to take the opportunity provided by the
Campus Crest Communications application, to reiterate our
support for finding solutions to the pressing housing needs of
the community. We particularly would like to emphasize the
following:

The property in question has undergone well over a
decade of review with various development proposals.
The land-use questions that have been raised have been
answered in ways that are consistent with the law and
with the standards that the community has laid out in
its land development code.

In our view, the City can ill afford to suffer the
consequences of further delay in addressing the larger
questions surrounding our OSU student population.

There is no site that will be immune from criticism. It is
the balance of community needs that must be
considered.

The extension of Circle Blvd. has been a prominent
feature of the transportation plan for more than three
decades. Alleviation of traffic congestion through
existing neighborhoods should be a welcome benefit to
many who live and who travel the existing routes.

The fact that the developer will pay for communitywide transportation amenities and for the additional
open space and community garden should represent
attractive bonuses to the overall City plan.


Further, the Grove development will represent a
significant investment in our community, upwards of
$35 million in land acquisition and construction costs.

It will create approximately 250 construction jobs and
an undetermined number of permanent jobs.

The company will use local vendors, where appropriate,
and will give back to the community in any number of
ways, from local banking to hiring consultants,
restaurants, caterers, landscapers, printers, cleaning
companies and the like.

The development will be owned by Campus Crest
indefinitely and its clubhouse facilities will be made
available to the local community for holding events.

Finally, the Grove will generate some significant tax
revenue for the City of Corvallis. It is estimated that
when completed Campus Crest would be the 5th largest
tax payer in Benton County.
Sincerely,
Kevin Dwyer
