Respiratory System and Circulatory System Study Guide
Respiratory System
*Know the parts to of the diagram from the Respiratory System: larynx, trachea, bronchial
tubes, alveoli, lung, diaphragm, nasal cavity, mouth
The main function of the Respiratory System is to inhale ________________________and
exhale ________________________.
When you _______________, your lungs fill with air.
Your diaphragm moves _______________ as you inhale giving more room for your lungs
to expand.
Your diaphragm moves _________________ as you exhale to help push the air out of your
lungs, and your lungs ___________________.
When you exercise your ___________________ increases because your body needs more
oxygen.
Air moves over the _________________ and makes the vocal cords vibrate to produce
sound.
The lungs take in and use ________________ while getting ride of waste gases such as
nitrogen and __________________________.
Respiration takes place in ________________ when _______________ is used and carbon
dioxide of given off as a waste product.
The oxygen is transferred to the ______________ so it can be sent to the rest of the body.
Put these steps in order to follow the path air takes when you inhale: bronchial tubes in
lungs, alveoli, trachea, capillaries, mouth or nose.

Circulatory System:
*Know the parts to of the diagram from the Circulatory System. Use the picture we gave
you. Right atrium, left atrium, septum, left ventricle, right ventricle, aorta, pulmonary
artery,
The function of the circulatory system is to move______________. It also
carries_______________ and _________________to the body. On its return path blood
takes away waste gases like ______________.
What kind of blood vessel carriers blood away from the heart? _____________
What kind of blood vessel carries blood to the heart? _____________________
What kind of gas is located in blood that is in an artery? _______________
What gas is located in blood that is in a vein? _____________
What side of the heart receives the blood returning from the body? __________
What side of the heart sends the blood out into the rest of the body? _________
Blood is sent to the lungs to get ___________________ and release ________________.
In what kind of blood vessel does the gas exchange take place? _____________________
What is the main organ in the circulatory system? _____________________
As your heart’s speed increases your _______________ goes up.
The throbbing you feel in our blood vessels is your ____________________.
This happens because more ___________________ is needed to get to your muscles to
work harder.
What is the path blood takes once it enters the heart: Put these in order: Right atrium, left
atrium, lungs, left ventricle, right ventricle, aorta, pulmonary artery, body.

Know how these two systems work together along with the other systems. The medulla
(nervous system) tells the heart to pump. The heart (circulatory system) pumps blood to
the lungs (respiratory system), picks up Oxygen, and gets rid of CO2. Then the heart sends
blood to rest of the body through blood vessels (arteries) and delivers oxygen and nutrients
to cell tissues and muscles (muscular system). The muscles have the energy to move the
body, which in turn moves the skeleton (skeletal system).
