AMEENA ANEES, MD (660) 263-2400 COLYTE PREPARATION FOR COLONOSCOPY INSTRUCTION SHEET A successful colonoscopy requires that the colon be completely free of all stool material. COLYTE is a product that, when properly taken by mouth, rapidly cleanses the bowel by causing a watery diarrhea. It is formulated so that fluid is not absorbed into the blood stream. The fluid has a salty taste, but it is safe even for people who must control salt intake. Products similar to COLYTE include GO-LYTELY and NULYTELY. You MUST drink the ENTIRE gallon of COLYTE solution in 2 to 2 ½ hours to achieve proper cleansing for your examination. If your colon is not clean, the examination may need to be rescheduled and you may have to undergo a second preparation. 5-7 DAYS BEFORE THE EXAMINATION Stop taking pills containing iron, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory pain medications (such as Motrin, Advil, Nuprin, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, Feldene, and Clinoril).
