The twelve signs of the Zodiac which are used in Horoscopes, astrology and
fortune- telling all have Latin names, and are associated with various classical
myths. Can you match each sign with its description?

Zodiac Sign
This sign means ‘bull’, and is associated with
Jupiter, who became a bull in order to seduce
Europa. The sign is also linked to king Midas, who
turned everything he touched into gold.
Aquarius

Aries
This sign means ‘crab’ and is associated with the
myth of the Hydra, which was killed by Hercules as
one of his Twelve Labours. The sign is sometimes
also associated with Medusa, who was killed by
Perseus.
This sign means ‘fish’, and is, associated with Venus
and her son, who turned themselves into fish to
escape the Titan Typhon. The constellation is also
sometimes linked to the Roman god Neptune.
This sign means ‘goat’, and is associated with the
goat Amalthea who brought him up as a baby,
providing him with milk. Jupiter turned her into a
constellation to honour her in return for her help.

with the mythological figure of Omphale, Queen of

Greek hero Bellerophon, who killed the monstrous
Chimera. He also tried to fly to Mt Olympus on
Pegasus, but was punished by the gods for his
arrogance.
This sign means ‘twins’, and is associated with the
divine twins Castor and Pollux, the brothers of
Helen of Troy.

Orpheus, who descended to the underworld to
bring back his wife from the dead, after she had
died from a snake bite.

mythological figure of Atalanta, a female warrior,
who would only marry a man who could beat her in
a race. Many tried, failed and were executed.
This sign means ‘water-carrier’, and is associated
with the mythological figure of Odysseus, King of
Ithaca, from the Greek myth of the Trojan War.
