This project has 2 parts. For Part one you must complete the EOCT/Exam Study guide. Part 2 All projects
must refer to and include The Biology Standards which we covered using information from Chapters 1-36.
Your project will replace your lowest test, or other summative grade. Only projects that show quality work will
be graded to replace an existing grade. This is due on May 21st and no late projects are accepted. Your
project must cover the standards as listed below. You may refer to each standard by the letter ex: SB1a,
SB2,e. This project will replace a test grade OR two homework grades.
Students will:
SB1. Analyze the nature of the relationships between structures and functions in living cells.
a. Explain the role of cell organelles for both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including
the cell membrane, in maintaining homeostasis and cell reproduction.
b. Explain how enzymes function as catalysts.
c. Identify the function of the four major macromolecules (i.e., carbohydrates, proteins,
lipids, nucleic acids).
SB2. Analyze how biological traits are passed on to successive generations.
a. Distinguish between DNA and RNA.
b. Explain the role of DNA in storing and transmitting cellular information.
c. Using Mendel’s laws, explain the role of meiosis in reproductive variability.
d. Describe the relationships between changes in DNA and potential appearance of new
traits including:
• Alterations during replication.
• Insertions
• Deletions
• Substitutions
• Mutagenic factors that can alter DNA.
• High energy radiation (x-rays and ultraviolet)
• Chemical
e. Compare the advantages of sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction in different
situations.
f. Examine the use of DNA technology in forensics, medicine, and agriculture.
SB3. Derive the relationship between single-celled and multi-celled organisms
and the increasing complexity of systems.
a. Relate the complexity and organization of organisms to their ability for obtaining,
transforming, transporting, releasing, and eliminating the matter and energy used to
sustain the organism.
b. Examine the evolutionary basis of modern classification systems. (six kingdoms)
SB4. Assess the dependence of all organisms on one another and the flow of energy and matter within
their ecosystems.
a. Investigate the relationships among organisms, populations, communities,
ecosystems, and biomes.
b. Explain the flow of matter and energy through ecosystems by
• Arranging components of a food chain according to energy flow.
• Comparing the quantity of energy in the steps of an energy pyramid.
• Explaining the need for cycling of major nutrients (C, O, H, N, P).
c. Relate environmental conditions to successional changes in ecosystems.
d. Assess and explain human activities that influence and modify the environment such
as global warming, population growth, pesticide use, and water and power consumption.
e. Relate plant adaptations, including tropisms, to the ability to survive stressful
environmental conditions.
f. Relate animal adaptations, including behaviors, to the ability to survive stressful
environmental conditions.
SB5. Evaluate the role of natural selection in the development of the theory of evolution.
a. Trace the history of the theory.
b. Explain the history of life in terms of biodiversity, ancestry, and the rates of evolution.
c. Explain how fossil and biochemical evidence support the theory.
d. Relate natural selection to changes in organisms.

e. Recognize the role of evolution to biological resistance (pesticide and antibiotic resistance).
Choose from any of these project ideas. Remember all projects must refer to and include The
Biology Standards which we covered using information from Chapters 1-36.
Do not Plagiarize make sure this is your own work. Do not forget to
use the standards – SB1a-c, SB2 a-f, SB3 a-b, SB4 a-f, SB5 a-e.
1. ABC… 123…. Book - Create a book complete with cover page and back page that features
words used in the standards (in the textbook from chapters one through thirty-six)representing
all 26 letters of the alphabet and the numbers 1-10. To cover all standards you will need at
least 2 words per letter and an illustrations from A-W and 1 word for X,Y,Z must be linked to a
standard. Example using A-Z –> A = animal cell (SB1a) so you define animal cell and draw an
animal cell. Example using numbers SB1c. 1 = the number of substrates an enzyme can bind
to during a reaction, So you draw an enzyme and substrate. You may draw or cut and paste.
Standard Check –You must have a definition/example/illustration from EVERY STANDARD.
Remember the word does not have to be listed word-for-word in the standard but can be in the
chapter that corresponds to the standard.
2. The Biology Game – is a board game or a jeopardy style game that covers all of the standards
covered in chapters one – thirty six. Directions, a game box with cover and all required game
pieces that can be played and it must be original. If you choose BINGO – or some version of
then you must have thirty different cards so the entire class can play. Standard Check –
Questions and game must cover all of the STANDARDS as listed on page one of this project
description.
3. Bio- Magazine. Is a magazine complete with cover, table of contents, illustrations and other
magazine-kind-of articles that covers the textbook chapters one-36 and is related to the
standards. There must be an article from each main standard SB1, SB2, SB3, SB4, SB5.
Standard Check – Remember the article must cover all of the STANDARDS as listed on page
one of this project description.
4. Bio Blog or Web game. Create a Blog or web game that covers all Standards and chapters 136. There must be --illustrations and information covered from each chapter. This work must
be original and in your own words.
5. Make your own story book of biology. Illustrate and tell a story that includes all standards
