1st Grade Spelling Contract
Name: ___________________________________
Date: _______________
Parent Signature: _________________________________________________
Directions: Monday through Wednesday you may select and complete one activity each night and go over
it with a parent. You must do a different activity each night, and one of your three assignments must be one
that has stars by it. Your parent needs to initial on the line beside the activity to indicate that the task was
completed and checked. Please be honest. 100 extra points will be averaged into the daily grades at the
end of the six weeks for each completed contract. Please return the assignment to school on Thursday. A
pre-test will be given on Thursday; if you receive a 100 then you may choose a free choice activity on
Friday. If you do not make a 100 on Thursday you will be asked to complete another assignment and
return it to school on Friday before the test.

Next week will be beginning our weekly spelling test
Each Friday a list of eight words will be sent home along with two
patterns to spell words.
An example of a pattern is –at. If you can spell at then you can build
words by adding a beginning sound to make a new word such as hat,
cat, bat.
Your child will also be asked to write a sentence that the teacher reads
to them using the spelling words for extra credit. Example: A cat is fat.
You may use the spelling contract as homework to practice the words
Students making a 100 on Thursday’s pre-test will not have to take the
test on Friday.
