In his 2016 Apostolic Letter, Misericordia et misera, at the conclusion of the
Jubilee Year, Pope Francis asked the Universal Church to continue observing
the "24 Hours for the Lord" on the Friday and Saturday before the Fourth
Sunday of Lent. The chief elements of the 24 Hours for the Lord are prayer
before the Most Blessed Sacrament (the church will be open all night) and the
opportunity for Confession. This is a wonderful opportunity to pray with the
nuns of the Carmel. The Carmel is at 87 St Charles Square W10 6EB

Prayers and condolences to the family of the late James Nersy whose
Requiem Mass took place here on Friday 17th March. We thank God for the
many blessings James brought to this parish. May he rest in peace and rise in
glory.
MARY’S MEALS - RAGS TO RICHES COLLECTION - A very big ‘thank
you’ to all who contributed to the collection last Sunday. I am delighted to say
that the parish managed to give 685 kg of unwanted clothes; there were also cash donations of
£1,288.05 making a total contribution of £1,610.55. The amount raised will feed 117 children
who will not only get fed one good, nutritious meal every school day for a whole year, but they
will get an education too.
Congratulations to the Children’s Choir which has just been affiliated to the Royal School of
Church Music! This choir continues to go from strength to strength!
Lenten Alms This weekend special leaflet envelopes are available at the back of the church to
support our Lenten Almsgiving, benefitting the Cardinal’s Appeal. Please be sure to take one and
read about this important Appeal, which helps fund evangelisation programmes, marriage and
family life promotional efforts, and our presence in charitable works and service in society,
especially among those on the margins. Please use the Cardinal Appeal leaflet/envelopes to make
your Lenten gift and place it in the Lenten collection box. Please make the Cardinal’s Appeal part
of your Lenten Almsgiving and sacrifice for the benefit of others and the Church’s dynamic
efforts to increase outreach in the three focal areas of ministry. Thank you for your generosity.
Planned Giving The new boxes of envelopes for planned giving are now available at the back of
the Church. If your name or address are incorrect on your box, please let the office know as soon
as possible so that we can amend our records. If you are new to the parish or would like a box of
envelopes, or would like to join the Gift Aid Scheme or would prefer to pay by Bankers Order,
please complete one of the green pledge cards at the back of the Church and post it through the
Presbytery letterbox. These new boxes start on the 9th April.
Baptism The date of the next course is to be confirmed from 2pm to 4pm in the Upper Room.
Your form will need to be completed and returned back to Fr Gerard in advance of the course to
guarantee your place.

For the Pope: “I ask, please, for your prayers for me and my collaborators, who until Friday
(10th March) will be on retreat.” -Pope Francis
Are you ready to Volunteer and make a difference in Lourdes 23rd – 29th July? Every year,
the Diocese of Westminster takes a large number of sick pilgrims to Lourdes and we rely on the
help of people like you to care for them. If you are between 16 and 18, you can serve as a ‘Red
Cap’, helping people in wheelchairs and taking part in the processions and many other tasks.
Please contact Katrina Lavery at [email protected] if you would like to learn
more, or you may wish to follow us on our Facebook page at The Westminster Diocesan
Pilgrimage to Lourdes Hospitalité Official Group. If you are over 18, your help would be very
much appreciated as a St Frai Helper. Some of our sick pilgrims in most need of support and
medical care stay in a hospital-like building called the Accueil St Frai. It is well-equipped for
their care and they are looked after by a team of doctors, nurses and volunteers. The role of a St
Frai helper is to support the nurses and provide the sort of care for which you don’t need a
medical qualification. This includes helping the pilgrims get up and ready in the morning;
making large amounts of tea; helping to keep the wards clean; taking the pilgrims to various
pilgrimage events; shopping and socialising with them; and putting them to bed at night. The
timetable is shared across two shifts so there is enough time to rest, make your own pilgrimage,
spend time with your groups and make new friends. Although plenty of people come back year
after year, at least half the people in your team will, like you, be working in the St Frai for the
first time, and because of this we organise training for all helpers beforehand to ensure that you
are happy in everything you do. Helping in Lourdes is an extremely moving and rewarding
experience, and working in the St Frai is an opportunity to give care and company to our pilgrims
and make a huge difference in their lives. If you’re interested in helping in the St Frai, please
email chief helper Nick Leonard and team at [email protected] Serving on a
pilgrimage, in any capacity, is a hugely rewarding experience and an opportunity to make a very
positive difference in the lives of the people we care for. We will be going out to Lourdes on
Sunday 23rd July and will return on Saturday 29th.

211. How can we help the souls being
purified in purgatory?
Because of the communion of saints, the
faithful who are still pilgrims on earth are
able to help the souls in purgatory by
offering prayers in suffrage for them,
especially the Eucharistic sacrifice. They
also help them by almsgiving, indulgences,
and works of penance.
