Administrative Medical Office Procedures
Module 8: Daily Financial Practices
Instructional Objective: Upon completion of this module, you
will be able to select an appropriate system for tracking patient accounts,
oversee bank procedures, manage the purchase of supplies, control patient
accounts, and establish a petty cash system.
Specific objectives: Upon completion of this course of study, you will be
able to:
1. Understand the importance of communication in regard to
establishing patient fees.
2. Identify circumstances that require adjustment of fees and post
accordingly.
3. Develop knowledge of various credit arrangements for patient
fees.
4. Differentiate between manual and computerized bookkeeping
systems.
5. Describe the pegboard system.
6. State the advantages of computerized systems for financial
practices.
7. List six good working habits for financial records.
8. Describe the encounter form.
9. Identify the parts of the patient account or ledger.
10. Discuss preparation of patient receipts.
11. Describe month-end activities.
12. Demonstrate a knowledge of banking procedures, including
types of accounts and services.
13. Show proficiency in preparing deposits and checks and
reconciling accounts.
14. Explain the process of purchasing equipment and supplies for
the ambulatory care setting.
15. Demonstrate proficiency in establishing and maintaining a
petty cash system.
