What are and describe the physical features of your country?





Continental US is divided into halves by the Rocky Mountain Range that
extends North to South from Canada to Mexico
Western regions mountainous and forested
Central areas consist of large grasslands and plains
Eastern regions are hilly with a mix of grasslands and forests.
All water flows into the Mississippi river system between the Rocky Mountains
and the much smaller Appalachian Mountains on the East Coast.
What is the impact that people and the movement of different people
had on you country?




Originally region was inhabited by Native Americans
In 1492 with America’s discovery by the European explorer Columbus, large
numbers of people of European descent moved to North America and
displaced the Native Americans as the dominant people on the continent
West Africans were brought to America as slaves from the 1600’s until the
1820’s.
In the 1900’s people from all over the world began to settle in the United
States. Eastern coast of the US has larger populations due to the fact that
European settlement began in this area.

Eastern Coast has a higher percentage of people living in urban
environments such as New York, Boston and Philadelphia and Washington
D.C.
How do people, goods, ideas move between places?


One of the most extensive freeway, rail, air-line systems in the world.
All of the major population centers are connected via those transportation
systems.
 Telephone and Internet services are easily available for all people in the
United States.
 Movement of goods, ideas and people takes place easily in the United States.
How is the country similar and different to other countries?
Similarities:
 Similar to wealthier countries of the world due to economic connections
 Germany, Japan, Great Britain, and France are all economically linked
together in the sharing of world markets and products.
 Large immigrant population from all over the world
 People from all over the world live and work in the US.
 Resulting in our culture incorporating many of different types of ideas and
ethnic values.
Differences:
 U.S. still has a lot of open spaces for population growth. Other countries
have a very limited in the amount of space that is available to its citizens for
living and economic activity.
 United States is considered the world’s only superpower.
 US both militarily and economically strong
 Lonely at the top
