STUDENT OUTCOMES. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the fundamentals upon which to build a medical vocabulary. The student will be able to: Revised 9/09 Identify and define the abbreviations common to each body system. Spell and pronounce each term as it is introduced on the audiotape. Define the different types of diabetes and identify their differences. List the nine endocrine glands and the hormones secreted by each. Identify and label the structures of the eye. Identify the pathway of sound from the external auditory canal to the cerebral cortex. Proofread medical reports with at least a 90% level of accuracy. Identify and label the internal structure of the kidney. List the major functions of the urinary system. Identify the structures involved in the process of forming and expelling urine. Label the structures of the male and female reproductive systems. Identify secondary sex characteristic changes that occur in the body at the onset of puberty. Identify and define at least six sexually transmitted diseases. Identify the four phases of the menstrual cycle. Identify and define the steps involved in breast self-examination, as well as the different surgical approaches to removing a malignant growth from the female breast.
