Class 1 We have shared the children’s holiday news
in small groups. The children then wrote detailed
sentences about their holidays trying hard to
remember capital letters and full stops. We have
also been looking at nursery rhymes. We have sung
a variety of nursery rhymes and have talked about
what the nursery rhymes were about and which
words rhyme. We looked at the nursery rhyme ‘The
Queen of Hearts’. The Year 1 children made up a
new verse for this nursery rhyme thinking carefully
about words that rhyme together. We also made jam
tarts carefully following the recipe. The Year 1
children have made recipe books with instructions
for making jam tarts. The Reception children looked
closely at the nursery rhyme ‘Jack and Jill’. They
drew a picture of their favourite part of the rhyme
and they wrote detailed sentences to go with their
pictures. In Numeracy, the Reception children have
been learning what tally marks are and how to use
them. They have also been comparing objects by
length and weight. The Year 1 children have been
practising partitioning numbers into tens and units.
Class 2 The children have really enjoyed looking
through their family tree boxes and sharing them
with their friends. Thank you so much for helping
them to put them together – they are so interesting!
In Literacy, Year 2 children became newspaper
reporters and produced a front page of their own
newspaper with their holiday news. As a class, we
have been looking at poetry around family members
and the children have written poems in different
styles. In Numeracy, the Y1 children worked on
finding a small difference between two numbers
using number lines. The Y2 children were adding 9
and 19 to a 2-digit number. They added numbers
mentally by adding 10 or 20 then subtracting 1. Both
Year 2 and 1 practised activities for our Sports Day
and singing for the Sing-a-long at St Mary’s Church.
Year 2 children did their reading, writing and maths
SATS papers. Well done to all the Year 2 children for
working so hard this week! We are very proud of you
all.

VALUES This term’s value is Justice. We will be
thinking about how Justice is a community where
everyone is valued and everyone’s well-being is
linked with everyone else. We will also be thinking
about Justice for those people in countries where
there are many poor people or where war is taking
place.
SCHOOL PHOTO Due to the bad weather (yet
again!) we were unable to take the whole school
traditional photo outside earlier this week. The
photographer is coming back on Monday 27th June
to take it. Could all the children come in full uniform
including summer dresses (checked) for girls, red
school jumpers and cardigans please (with logo).
SPORTS DAY Don’t forget Sports Day is taking
place on Wednesday 15th June from 09.30. The
children will need to arrive at school at the usual
time. This event usually finishes at approximately
11am. You will also have received a letter about the
team your child is in.
YEAR 2 RECORDER LESSONS don’t forget to
bring your recorders and books for Monday’s lesson.
VOUCHERS You can still bring any left over Tesco
vouchers to school. The Sainsbury’s vouchers came
to an end during half term so please check all your
pockets and handbags for any lurking around! Every
single voucher does make a difference to the
school. We are able to bank vouchers for next year
too. Thank you for your support!
MESSAGE FROM FOPS
Please find attached details of our sealed bid
auction for two train tickets for use any time, any
route on the First Great Western rail network!! Don’t
forget all bids to be sent to school by Friday 17th
June.
HAT AND SUN CREAM As the weather is hopefully
becoming warmer, may we remind you that the
children need a sun hat to wear for playtimes and
outdoor Games lessons. The children may also use
a high factor sunscreen (SPF 15+) – please apply
sunscreen before arriving to school. If you wish, you
can send your child with a named sunscreen bottle
which must be handed to the class teacher to be
kept in a cupboard and can be used to top up if they
do outdoor games in the afternoon. Please ensure
that your child doesn’t bring sunglasses to school as
they can be dangerous when children are running
about at playtime or during sports activities.

BOOK FAIR
During the week of the Book Fair, we will have
published a book containing work by each of our
pupils. Every child has contributed a piece of writing
and is part of the, ‘We Are Writers’ Project. There
will be a sample copy and orders may be placed at
the Book Fair.
OPEN DOOR Please remember our doors are
always open, should you wish to discuss any
questions or concerns you may have regarding your
child. We also like to hear about children’s
achievements outside of school. These can be
shared in our Celebration assembly. So, if your child
receives a badge or medal, we would love share
their success. If your child has really enjoyed
something they have been learning about in school,
we would also love to hear about it. Either drop in to
speak to us (after school is best), email on
[email protected] or telephone
