 Fame/Famous person
Discovering something new in science might bring you fame.
The person who discovers the cure for AIDS will become famous.
 Scientific advance/Medical advance
The discovery of radium was a great scientific advance.
 Positive impact
Science has had a positive impact on our world – we can now explore space, heal
people from many diseases, and understand much about nature’s laws.
 Negative impact
Science has had a negative impact on our world – we can now use our increased
knowledge to kill people and destroy our planet.
 Evolution
Evolution is a theory, not a proven fact, about how life began on earth.
 Natural selection
Evolutionists believe in natural selection – strong animals survive and weak ones die
or are eaten. Evolutionists believe this is what makes species strong enough to
survive.
 Creation
People who believe in creation believe that God created the world and the people,
animals, and plants on it.
 Natural disasters
Earthquakes, floods, and forest fires are natural disasters.
 Cloning
When you clone an animal, you use the animal’s genes to make a new animal exactly
like the old one.
 Ethical
Do you think it is ethical to clone animals?
 Human organs
Examples of human organs are the brain, the heart, and the kidneys.
 Influence
There are very few people on earth who haven’t been affected by science – science
has had a great influence on all our lives.
 Investigate
When detectives try to find out who committed a crime, they conduct an
investigation.
 Branch of science
Astronomy is a branch of science that tries to find out more about the planets and stars.
 Breakthrough
When someone discovers a cure for cancer, it will be a scientific breakthrough.
