FROG DISSECTION Team members Determine the frog’s gender. Look at the fingers on its forelegs. A male frog usually has thick pads on its “thumbs” which is one external difference between the sexes, as shown in the diagram below. Male frogs are also usually smaller than female frogs. *If your specimen is a female, the body may be filled with eggs and an enlarged ovary. You may need to remove these eggs to view the organs. Predict the gender of your frog based on observation: ____________________________ As you go through each layer, classify the organs and record your observations using the following table: Integumentary System. Muscular system 1. Observe and describe the skin of the frog. a) What does it feel like? b) Color, texture? 1. Muscles allow the frog to (complete the sentence)_______________________ 2. Explain the similarities of the skin of a human and a frog. 2. Explain one of the functions of muscles for a human. Does this function hold true for frogs? Why or Why not? Skeletal system Explain what you see in the frog skeleton. Which parts are similar to a human skeleton? Circulatory system. Which parts and organs of the circulatory system where you able to find? What is different between a human and a frog skeletal system. Respiratory System Which organs conform the respiratory system of the frog? Digestive system Compare between the human and the frog respiratory systems. How many lobes does the liver have? How does the digestive system is conformed in the frog? What other differences are observed? Excretory System Compare between the human and the frog excretory systems. Reproductive system What organs were you able to identify? Was your prediction about gender right? 1. How many layers of organs are in the frog? _____________ Label the diagram with the following organs and write some observations about each one of them. Organ liver heart gall bladder stomach small intestine lungs pancreas spleen kidneys sex organs Cloaca Observations
