Grammar: Active and Passive Voice
An action verb is in the active voice when the subject of the sentence
performs the action.
Ex.
The new student threw a wicked fastball.
Orca pods passed the boat within five feet of its sides.
Jeff played Monopoly with his sister for three hours.
An action verb is in the passive voice when its action is performed on
the subject (you make the original object of the verb the new subject
of the sentence).
You form passive voice by using a form of the be verb with the past
tense of an action verb.
Ex.
A wicked fastball was thrown by the new student.
The boat was passed by orca pods within five feet of its sides.
Monopoly was played by Jeff and his sister for three hours.
