Program Description
The Institute is open to the public and it features
exhibits that detail various technologies: energyefficient design, electricity, heating, non-toxic and
natural materials, ecological waste treatment
systems, conservation, recycled-materials, and
organic gardening. Moreover, many organizations
run educational programs at the Institute offering a
variety of programs and workshops for students,
homebuilders, and the general public that are
designed to promote environmental stewardship.
Environmental Education Center, teacher resource
center (prop boxes, teaching kits, curriculum guides,
field guides, children's storybooks, textbooks on
environmental topics), teacher workshops, school
outreach programs, summer camps, after school and
scout programs, and field explorations.
RI GHG Emissions Inventory and climate change in
RI educational resources including: a study guide
(questions and prompts that provide ways of
examining the inventory); lesson plans/links for
earth sciences, history/social science, biology,
chemistry, and physics; other educational databases;
general background on global warming; individual
choices-how you can influence change; and
alternatives- what can be done in the future.
Free educational materials and in-class programs on
electricity safety and basic electricity concepts, and
energy: how it's made, the need to conserve it, and
how its use impacts the environment.
NEED- National Energy Education Development
Project- workshops for RI educators. Narragansett
Electric provides curriculum guides, correlation to
RI Education Standards, and hands-on classroom
kits to be used to teach the science of energy and
energy management. It also helps to defray the cost
of enrollment for educators attending the workshop.
Speakers' program- employees promote awareness
about the properties of natural gas and its
distribution basics, and to promote safe natural gas
usage. Free materials provided: safety brochures,
bill inserts, school materials, promotional items.

energy efficiency and regulatory initiatives, holding
workshops on key policy topics, and developing
presentations and topical papers on key issues.
Office of Air Resources- ozone alerts, daily
forecasts from April through September, health
values chart (air quality rating, air quality index, 8hour ozone concentration), health effects chart
(ozone rating, adverse health effects, ways to
protect your health), description of ozone, and tips
to help reduce ozone pollution.
Office of Technical and Customer AssistancePollution Prevention program for businesses and
why should you care about preventing waste?
