New Support Group for Breast Cancer Patients
(PALO ALTO, CA – JULY 14, 2015) – Bay Area Cancer Connections (BCC) is pleased to partner with the
Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC) to provide a Breast Cancer Newly Diagnosed & In-Treatment
Support Group. Meetings are free and will take place at the PJCC in Foster City the second Tuesday of
every month from 6:30-8:00 pm. The first group meets on Tuesday, July 14.
“We know that emotional support is crucial for health, and sometimes what we need most is simply to
be with other people who understand what we’re going through,” said Rina Bello, Executive Director of
Bay Area Cancer Connections. “Talking about our emotions can be difficult, but the benefits of support
groups have been proven to reduce stress levels and decrease anxiety.”
The group is led by Ann Rivello, a licensed therapist, experienced group leader and breast cancer
survivor. The free support group is for the unique experience of women who are newly diagnosed or
currently being treated for breast cancer. The emotional and practical side effects of treatment will be
discussed to support health and well-being throughout treatment.
“For over 20 years Bay Area Cancer Connections has been a trusted resource for women facing breast
cancer in our community,” said Vicki McGrath, a certified breast cancer exercise specialist at the PJCC.
McGrath oversees The Pink Ribbon Program, a postoperative workout designed for breast cancer
patients. “We’re excited to bring one of their quality support groups to women at the PJCC.”
