Extra Credit Tessellation Project
Due: Thursday 29th, 2009 (At the
beginning of class!!)
For the next unit test, we will not be offering a
bonus problem. Instead, you are being given the
opportunity to use some creativity to earn your
bonus points!! Using the example on p. 517 as a
guide, create your own tessellation for 5 points of
extra credit added to the test!
Criteria:




“8 heads” M.C. Escher 1922
Tessellating shape must be within the range of a 2 in x 2 in area. (If you use pg.
517 as a guide and start with that size square, your figure will be fine.)
Must completely cover an 8.5 in x 11 in piece of white paper.
Your Tessellation must be colored! (A minimum of two colors, no max!)
DO NOT copy a figure from the textbook or the internet. ORIGINAL WORK
ONLY!
To get some ideas, go to http://shodor.org/interactivate/activities/ click on Geometry at
the top of the page, and scroll down until you find the activity called Floor Tiles. Here
you can manipulate the four sides figure and ask the computer to tessellate it for you.
This may help you to get a better idea of what you could create.
Another helpful website is www.Tessellations.org . Here you can find examples, history
and a do it yourself guide.
THIS SHOULD NOT BE DONE INSTEAD OF YOUR REVIEW OR YOUR
PROJECT! UNDERSTAND, THIS IS FOR EXTRA CREDIT ONLY; IT WILL
NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF YOUR PROJECT GRADE!!
