Animal Adaptations Poster An adaptation is a feature that is common in a population because it provides some improved function. Adaptations are well fitted to their function and are produced by natural selection. Adaptations can take many forms: a behavior that allows better evasion of predators, a protein that functions better at body temperature, or an anatomical feature that allows the organism to access a valuable new resource—all of these might be adaptations. Many of the things that impress us most in nature are thought to be adaptations. Example: Mimicry of leaves by insects is an adaptation for evading predators. This example is a katydid from Costa Rica Your task: Create an animal adaptation poster similar to the one below. Minimum requirements: All animals must be from the same type of habitat (Ex: Tropical Rainforest) You must identify and fully explain 8 animal adaptations. For each, include the name and a picture of the animal with the adaptation. Your explanation should include a description of the adaptation and what advantage the adaptation gives the organism. Remember, an adaptation is a characteristic that helps an animal survive in its habitat. In your explanation, be sure to explain how the adaptation helps the animal survive. Be very specific. So choose a habitat and choose 8 animals that live there to research! Animal Adaptations Checklist ______ (40 points) 8 adaptations are fully explained (Provide the characteristic/behavior and how it improves success). ______ (16) points) Pictures and names are provided for each animal adaptation. ______ (16) All animals are from the same habitat. (marine, tropical rain forest, desert, etc.) ______ (20 points) The poster is neat and attractive. ______ (8 points) The poster is free of mistakes and grammatical errors. USE COMPLETE SENTENCES
