Salal, Labrador Tea, Skunk Cabbage, Sundew, Sphagnum
Moss.
It can make its own heat. It smells like a skunk. It has a
yellow flower. The big, waxy leaves can be used to wrap
food.
It has a sticky pad. It attracts insects to it with a sweet
substance. They get stuck and the plant digests them.
It has a strong smell which attracts a lot of bees. The leaves
can be made into a tea which is good for sore throats. The
underside of the leaves are orange and furry.
It has hollow stems that can hold up to 30 times their
weight in water. It makes the bog wet and bouncy.
It has tough leaves that don’t drop in the fall. It has white
flowers in the spring and dark berries that can be eaten.
