Rocks and Minerals Project
Your task is to complete one of the following projects for the second marking
period Rocks and Minerals Science Kit. The project is due on January 6, 2006.
It is worth 100 points toward your science grade. You must use words from the
Word Box in your project. You must use the words correctly to show me that you
understand their meanings and understand what we are doing in science class.
The following is the rubric I will use to grade you on your project:
1. Effort and Creativity – 20points
2. Vocabulary words used and used correctly – 30 points
3. Spelling, Grammar, 3 detailed paragraphs – 20 points
4. Rock Scene Creation – 30 points
Please choose one from the following choices for your project:
Project #1 – Rock Band
Create a rock band to display in the classroom. Decorate
rocks to look like the members of a rock and roll band. Create a
name for your band that relates to rocks, (The Rocking Stones).
Write a 3 paragraph paper on the history of your rock band. Be
sure to include at least 10 words from the word box. Some
possible things you can include are: where your band came
from, their most popular song, band members’ names and why
they have the names, etc. Be creative!! The more colorful and wild your band is,
the better!!
Project #2 – Rock Family Reunion
Create a rock family reunion to display in the classroom. Decorate rocks
to look like a family that is having a reunion. Write a 3 paragraph paper
describing the family and their history. You can describe some of the fun
activities they have planned for the gathering (playing some soft rock instead of
softball) and maybe past family gatherings they have
enjoyed. Even include some of the foods they will eat at
the party. (Granite dogs and Obsidian burgers.) You
need to be sure to include at least 10 words from the
word box.
Be creative. The more colorful and
creative your family is, the better!!
Project #3 – Pet Rock
Create a pet rock to display in the classroom. Decorate your rock to look
like a pet that you would like to have or already have. It can be
anything, use your imagination. Write a 3 paragraph paper
describing your pet: what it looks like, what it likes to do, what it eats,
why you have your pet, what you like to do with your pet, etc. Be sure
to be creative and descriptive and include at least 10 words from the
word box.
