KOMU 8 Now Available in High Definition to DirecTV Subscribers
in time for Super Bowl XLIII
COLUMBIA, MO - KOMU 8 in Columbia announced today that it has reached an agreement
with DirecTV to provide its subscribers with KOMU 8’s High Definition signal. DirecTV subscribers in
the Columbia-Jefferson City MO market area will have access to KOMU 8 News and Weather in HD, all
NBC HD programming, and KOMU 8 syndicated programming in HD including Dr. Phil, Oprah
Winfrey, and Wheel of Fortune. DirecTV subscribers will also be able to enjoy the Super Bowl in High
Definition on KOMU 8 as plans to carry the signal are expected to be completed shortly. The agreement
also includes DirecTV’s carriage of KOMU 8’s sister station, Mid-Missouri CW. KOMU 8 has
been Mid-Missouri’s first and only news organization to broadcast in High Definition since August 8,
2008.
“We are very pleased to expand our High Definition signal to DirecTV customers,” said KOMU 8
General Manager Marty Siddall. “KOMU 8 provides more hours of HD programming than any other station in
the market and we are certain that DirecTV subscribers will enjoy having access to the clearest, sharpest images
on KOMU 8.”
KOMU 8, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Missouri, serves a dual role. While the
station strives to bring the best in news and entertainment programming to mid-Missouri, it also serves an
educational function. The newsroom is the only one of its kind that is also a teaching lab. The program is
set up through MU’s Department of Broadcast Journalism.
