CONSORZIO COOPERATIVE COSTRUZIONI
Executive Summary
d-May-yy1
1.
The Client
The Consorzio Cooperative Costruzioni (Group of Construction Cooperatives) is one of the
primary groups in the national construction sector.
There are more than 240 associated cooperatives who operate in the fields of
construction, transport, services, industry, and construction materials.
They include large, nation-wide cooperatives, and small and medium sized cooperatives,
and give an overall occupation to more than 20,000 operators, for an annual turnover of
more than 6,000 billion lira.
1. Aims of the Client
This portal represents the tool prepared by the CCC to promote, through the Web, the
exchange of information and the comparison of opportunities with other operators in the
field. The Web project is addressed in general to the construction field, from Public Bodies
to Contracting Stations, from the Banking System to the Insurance System, from design
companies to the individual practitioners, from the representative structures of the
construction companies to the individual companies which can, in turn, become partners or
potential competitors of the Group itself.
It is obviously addressed, in particular, to the CCC’s associate cooperatives and the group
of the CCC’s suppliers and their associates. For these two categories of subscribers there
are areas of restricted access, destined to become a state-of-the-art tool, to facilitate and
increase the already considerable exchanges which constitute one of the basic aims of the
CCC.
The associated cooperatives are considered a priority subscriber of the CCC portal.
Use of the Web is intended to permit the supply of traditional group services in the most
efficient way, in both range and promptness, and at the same time allow for the supply of
innovative services. Among the traditional services, the one which receives greatest
benefit is the access to the system of suppliers qualified by Acam. Apart from tracing
personal data, qualification details and possible ISO 9000 of the supplier, there is also the
possibility of access to the terms of the commercial agreements, and the chance to visit
the Web site, where available, of the supplier in question.
Innovative services offered include:
the price analysis system for the main products relevant to the sector, with real time
updating of same;
a service of legal and regulatory consultation, with the possibility of obtaining, in real time,
the tests for new technical and legal requirements, and the relative analyses to be
prepared by the Group or the National Association;
a news area with information of interest to the associates;
a system of linking with selected sites, of undoubted interest for the construction sector.
The Group intends to increase progressively the volume and quality of the information
available (with access to the information being each time reserved to the associate
member concerned) from the situation of the financial account with the Group, to the
details of the operational balance of the individual job orders undertaken.
2. Architecture of the System
The system comprises a Web portal developed by the VeniceCom Company, installed on
a Web server situated in Mestre with HTML pages divided into two areas
The first is “public”, and access is free to any Internet subscribr, the second is
“confidential” and becomes available only after recognition through the use of LOGIN (with
user name and password).
From the “confidential” page, access can be obtained, using the appropriate links, to the
pages on the Web Server of theGroup, situatd in Bologna.
The development of the portal on the Bologna site is being carried out by IDS.

The Web Portal
The Web portal publishes information divided into different areas according to subject.
The first area presents an outline of the company, illustrating its history and organisation.
A second area is dedicated to CCC members, who can find news, addresses and CCC
contacts, forums and access to the Data Warehouse where they can find information
about their suppliers, such as agreements and price lists, as well as a fully detailed file of
links to sites and e-mail.
A further area is dedicated to CCC suppliers who can, using the appropriate modules, offer
their services as potential suppliers, or consult the list of potential clients, that is, the
associate members.
The subscriber interface supplied by us must be incorporated in the Group Web portal
created by VeniceCom, and therefore utilise the same themes (background, font, colour,
…) as all the other Web pages.
The INTERNET subscribers are the associate members and suppliers, and therefore
comprise a very varied pool of clients.
The INTRANET subscribers are those working in the Group and therefore represen a
homogeneous and controllable pool of clients.
Taking into consideration the Internet subscribers, the technology used for the web
screening must be compatible with most browsers available on the market, and should
therefore not use proprietary technology. Neither should it be a burden on the time of
refreshing or downloading of the page. The surfing and research menus should be guided
and clear.
The INTERNET solution proposed consists in the utilisation of CGI/HTML technology. This
technology is possible in a SAS environment, using the BROKER.EXE programme as a
link between the Web server and the SCL programmes.
Various applications have, in fact, been developed in SCL language which, on the basis of
the criteria requested by the subscriber, create the HTML text for the page to be
represented, rapidly and compatibly. The web pages created in this way contain not only
the results required by the subscribers, but also the same research criteria required of the
subscriber through later refinements.
Guided menus have been developed to assist subscribers. The various types have been
agreed with the Group on the basis of the research criteria most in use at present.
The solution for INTRANET subscribers (only those working within the Group) consists in
the utilisation of applet Java technology (WebAF WebEIS).
One or more applet will be developed according to the analysis requirements of the
internal subscribers.
The applet will be directed principally to the functions of data analysis (eg. Statistics,
comparisons, graphs, …) whilst the CGI applications will be directed principally to data
research (eg. Suppliers , divided by area, materials, turnover, etc.), according to the
solution utilised by the INTERNET subscribers.
INTRANET research criteria will be extended to a large number of options on the basis of
the prospect of the subscriber’s data, until it reaches personnel of high computer
information level, where visibility of data is total.
