World War I is called the Great War for many reasons. Examine the many underlying causes for this “war to end all wars.” Be sure to give specific details about these causes. Then, describe the methods and weapons used during World War I that made it the most deadly and destructive war of its time. 2. Trace the American response to the war in Europe from 1914 to its entry in 1917. Discuss the reasons for ultimate involvement and give examples of governmental efforts to make World War I a total war in the United States. 3. While the war effort created many political and economic changes in the United States, socially the U.S. was changing too. Examine the social changes African Americans and women experienced during the World War I era at home. Be sure to include causes for the changes in society as well as impacts. 4. After the war ended, plans were made for peace. Compare and contrast Wilson’s Fourteen Points with the Treaty of Versailles. Be sure to explain the significance of each as well as the successes and failures of each plan’s sub points. 5. While President Wilson supported the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles, Congress did not. Explain Congress’s reservations about ratifying the Treaty of Versailles and why Congress’s opinion mattered at all. 6. While the League of Nations was going to be established, it was never effective. Explain why.
