Ankle nerve blocks. A. The subcutaneous field block of the sural nerve (sur.) extends from the Achilles tendon to the lateral malleolus. The posterior tibial
nerve (p.t.) is blocked just behind the posterior tibial artery. B. The deep peroneal nerve (d.per.) block is blocked at the level of the medial malleolus
between the anterior tibial tendon (t.a.) and extensor hallucis longus tendon (e.h.l.). The subcutaneous field block of the superficial peroneal nerve (s.per.)
extends from the lateral malleolus to the anterior tibial tendon. C. The posterior tibial nerve is blocked posteriorly to the posterior tibial artery. The
subcutaneous field block of the saphenous nerve (saph.) extends from the medial malleolus to the anterior tibial tendon. See Foot and Ankle Blocks
section for further details. [Courtesy of Timothy Sweeney, MD.]
