World War II
The following is a ½ year course on World War II. The purpose is to examine the
greatest conflict/event of the 20th century in depth. We will look at World War II from
the point of view of the United States without ignoring the worldwide implications that
were involved.
Students will be able to answer several questions by the end of the course,
attached are the corresponding standards. They are as follows.
1. Why and how did World War II start?
2. Could WWII have been avoided?
3. Why and how did the United States become involved?
4. Could the United States have avoided war?
5. Was the U.S. prepared for war and why?
6. What strategies did each side employ in conducting the war?
7. Were the strategies employed in the winning of the war just?
8. Could the U.S. have stopped or prevented the holocaust from happening?
9. What did the U.S. do on the home front to assist in the war effort?
10. What plans did the allies have for the end of the war and post war
reconstruction?
11. Was the use of the Atomic bomb just?
12. How and why does the U.S. become a Superpower?
