(If you find these outlines helpful in your walk with Jesus, please let us know! www.gcfnh.org) Hear My Cry, O Lord!” Psalm 61 Here we are, the first Sunday of 2016! We have no idea what this new year will bring, but we do know that our Lord already holds this coming year in His Hand of Power! There will be blessings and there will be challenges! There will be great joy, yet there will be great heartache! There will be profound victories yet, there will be times we will feel utterly defeated. One thing is for sure, we can be lead to the Rock that is higher than ourselves! This psalm is from David’s heart during a very low point in his reign as king. HEAR HIS HEART!! I. Vs 1-3 A. Hear my cry, O God!!! Attend to my prayer! Sometimes, when we are stressed, saddened, or overloaded, we wonder…. Does God hear me? Is God even aware about what has happened? Will God, the Almighty God, intervene? The answer? YES!!! 1. God heard the cries of the Hebrew children in Egypt! B. 2. God demonstrated His power over all creation to Pharaoh! 3. God split the Red Sea in half!! 4. God provided water out of a rock!! 5. God provided manna for their sustenance!! 6. God caused even their sandals not to wear out for over 40 years! 7. God gave them strength to subdue the promised land!! 8. God, to this day is the protector over Israel!! 9. And God is no respecter of persons! Rom. 2:11 “For there is no partiality with God!!” From the “end of the earth” I will cry to you! 1. When I am “at my wits-end!” 2. When I am “at the end of myself!” 3. When I am “backed into a corner!” Page 2 4. C. When I have “no place to turn!” And when My heart is “overwhelmed!” To be overwhelmed is a sense of total loss of control, direction, or to be totally overtaken by something or someone, sometimes to the point of panic when nothing makes any sense! 1. D. Hear my cry, O God!!! “Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I!!!” Psalm 118:22-24 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. II. Isaiah 28:16 Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily. I Cor. 10:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. Vs. 3-4 A. B. The Rock is my shelter! A strong tower! 1. A place of safety! 2. A reference point! 3. Can be easily seen from far away! Vs. 4 I will abide in your tabernacle!! Page 3 1. The tabernacle was a large tent that traveled with the Hebrew nation through the wilderness. David used this to signify the fact that the Presence of God is wherever I am! God is with me!!! Romans 8:31 C. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? I will trust in the shelter of Your Wings! Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Psalm 121 READ III. Vs. 5-7 A. B. There comes a time in the midst of difficulties, that we rest in Jesus! You have heard my vows! Vow - Heb - Neder - A promise to God 1. I vowed to receive You as my Lord and my Savior! 2. I have vowed to live my life for you! 3. I have vowed to love You and serve You all the days of my life! And when I fall short of my promises, God rises up with: 1. Forgiveness! 2. Reconciliation! 3. Restoration! B. You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your Name! C. Vs. 6 My life is prolonged simply because of this heritage! ETERNITY!!! Page 4 D. He shall (a point of certainty) abide before God forever! 1. IV. Vs. 8 How did David know this? Because of God’s A. Mercy! B Truth! Because of all this David said, “I will sing praise to Your Name forever!!!”
