Spelling Games and Tasks 2 P2 To help you learn your spelling patterns and rules we have created another active spelling games and tasks grid for you to work from. Each week you should choose ONE activity to complete. Colour in the box to show which activity you have completed and be sure to evidence your work where possible. This may be in the form of jotter work, on a separate sheet of paper, via the computer and printed or as a photograph or a recording. ABC Order First write your spelling words in a list. Then write them again in alphabetical order. Finally, write them in reverse alphabetical order. Toss a Word Toss or roll a ball back and forth with a partner. You say the 1st letter, and then toss and your partner says the 2nd letter, and so forth. Adding My Words Each letter has a value. Consonants are worth 5 and vowels are worth 10. Write your spelling words. Then add up the value of each spelling word. Examples: said 5+10+10+5=30 there 5+5+10+5+10= 35 Spelling City Type Spelling City into Google and access the home page. Enter 10 words from your spelling list and then play a game. You may choose from Audio Word Match, Missing Letter, Test N Teach, Word Unscramble, Word Search and Hang Mouse! Cut your picture out into 9+ to see animated hands making the pieces and see if a partner can put letters so that you can practice! it back together again. Newsy Words Use old magazines, catalogues or newspapers to cut out letters. Glue the letters down on a piece of paper to spell your words. Laundry Raid Raid the laundry basket of clothing items. Fold or roll these clothing items into shapes that will form the letters you require to spell out words from your spelling list. Take a photograph to evidence your work. Water Graffiti With a bucket of water and a paint brush write your spelling words on a path outside your house. Take a photograph of your Water Graffiti. Create an Activity Can you think of a really fun way to practice your spelling words? Then go for it! Be sure to explain your activity so I can share it with the class or use within the next spelling games grid. Word Find Create flashcards of your spelling words. Put them round a room in your house. Then with a partner take it in turns to define a word so your partner can find it. The person with the most flashcards at the end wins. You need to know what each word means to win! Alphabet Spaghetti If possible, purchase a tin of Alphabet Spaghetti. Fish out the letters from the Alphabet Spaghetti tin to build your spelling words on a plate. Take a photograph to evidence your work.
