Spelling Games and Tasks 2
P2
To help you learn your spelling patterns and rules we have created another
active spelling games and tasks grid for you to work from. Each week you should
choose ONE activity to complete. Colour in the box to show which activity you
have completed and be sure to evidence your work where possible. This may be
in the form of jotter work, on a separate sheet of paper, via the computer and
printed or as a photograph or a recording.
ABC Order
First write your spelling words in a
list. Then write them again in
alphabetical order. Finally, write
them in reverse alphabetical order.
Toss a Word
Toss or roll a ball back and forth
with a partner. You say the 1st
letter, and then toss and your
partner says the 2nd letter, and so
forth.
Adding My Words
Each letter has a value.
Consonants are worth 5 and vowels
are worth 10. Write your spelling
words. Then add up the value of
each spelling word.
Examples:
said 5+10+10+5=30
there 5+5+10+5+10= 35
Spelling City
Type Spelling City into Google and
access the home page. Enter 10
words from your spelling list and
then play a game. You may choose
from Audio Word Match, Missing
Letter, Test N Teach, Word
Unscramble, Word Search and
Hang Mouse!

it back together again.
Newsy Words
Use old magazines, catalogues or
newspapers to cut out letters. Glue
the letters down on a piece of
paper to spell your words.
Laundry Raid
Raid the laundry basket of
clothing items. Fold or roll these
clothing items into shapes that will
form the letters you require to
spell out words from your spelling
list. Take a photograph to
evidence your work.
Water Graffiti
With a bucket of water and a
paint brush write your
spelling words on a path
outside your house. Take a
photograph of your Water
Graffiti.
Create an Activity
Can you think of a really fun
way to practice your spelling
words? Then go for it! Be
sure to explain your activity
so I can share it with the
class or use within the next
spelling games grid.
Word Find
Create flashcards of your
spelling words. Put them
round a room in your house.
Then with a partner take it in
turns to define a word so
your partner can find it. The
person with the most
flashcards at the end wins.
You need to know what each
word means to win!
Alphabet Spaghetti
If possible, purchase a tin of
Alphabet Spaghetti. Fish out
the letters from the
Alphabet Spaghetti tin to
build your spelling words on a
plate. Take a photograph to
evidence your work.
