Propaganda poster
Animal farm
You will create a propaganda poster for Animal Farm. Imagine that your poster
would be displayed around the barn. Propaganda posters usually send a very
simple and clear message. They use both words and images, but words are
usually used sparingly.
You have two choices.
A. Either you may create a poster that supports the true ideals of Animalism,
as its founder, Old Major, would have approved.
B. Or, if you are in the mood for an extra challenge, you may create a poster
that purports to be about Animalism, but contains hints regarding
Napoleon’s hidden and self-serving agenda.
In the Soviet examples, you might notice that some posters are mostly
proCommunism, while others are mostly anti-Capitalism. In some cases, both
the
pro and the anti are present.
You should incorporate at least two of the following propaganda techniques.

Your poster should have effective visual impact and should include a
quotation
from the book that you will use as a SLOGAN.
On the back of your poster, or on a separate sheet of paper, write an
explanation
of your poster, which should include:






The meaning of any symbols and images you choose to include,
Your reason for using the quote you used,
Which propaganda techniques you used, how you used them, and why,
Who on the farm is the target audience of your poster,
Direct and clear references to characters/events in the book, to
demonstrate your understanding of the novel
If you’ve chosen the challenge option (Napoleon’s version of Animalism),
you should include an explanation of how your poster serves his lessthanhonorable purposes.
