constructivism was an artistic and
architectural movement in Russia from 1919
onward which rejected the idea of "art for arts
sake" in favor of art as a practice directed
towards social purposes.
propaganda
information, ideas, or
rumors deliberately spread widely to help
(or harm) a person, group, movement,
institution, nation, etc.
agitprop (pr. A-jət-PROP)-
A combination
of “agitation” and “propaganda”. It most often
refers to communist- or socialist-oriented political
propaganda disseminated especially through
literature, art, theater, or music. Also, a work,
such as a painting, sculpture, poster, or video,
that is designed to impress a certain political or
social attitude on its audience, with little or no
consideration given to accuracy.
Vladimir Mayakovski
(1893-1930)

Russian artists worked
together and called
themselves "advertising
constructors". Together they
designed eye-catching
images featuring bright
colors, geometric shapes,
and bold lettering. The
lettering of most of these
designs was intended to
create a reaction and get
viewers to do what the
poster said to do!
