Points: Candidates applying through the RCSI Access
programme for the Traveller Community will be assessed
separately to the general CAO allocations. Places will be
awarded on a lower points threshold. It is unlikely however
that this threshold will be less than 450 points for each of
the three mentioned programmes. Applications will be
selected for admission to the programmes on the basis of open
competition based on CAO points (i.e. offers will be made to the
candidates with the highest points).
HPAT is not a requirement for the RCSI TCAP programme but
may be submitted if the candidate has taken the exam in support
of the application.
A Levels:
3 A levels: Candidates must present three A level subjects with a
minimum grade of BBB. Subjects covered must include two
subjects from the group Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
Application:
Applications are invited from members of the Traveller Community
who have:
(a) completed recognized second level examinations
(Leaving Certificate or A levels) or
(b) are due to sit these examinations in June 2011.
Our understanding of the Traveller Community is defined by the Equal
Status Act 2000 & 2008 which defines the community as follows:
People who are commonly called Travellers, who are identified both by
Travellers and others as people with a shared history, culture and
traditions, identified historically as a nomadic way of life on the Island of
Ireland.

the programme. Student supports will be determined on a case
by case basis through consultation with the individual student
and other relevant parties who can contribute to assessing and
deciding on the appropriate supports. These supports may
include student accommodation, student living allowance and
additional support services such as mentoring, health &
