Saudi Arabia Airport Sector Briefing Monday 19 January 2015 Central London UKTI and BAG are hosting airport briefing which will set out the opportunities for UK companies in Saudi Arabia. Companies are invited to attend the briefing by the Saudi General Authority for Civil Aviation where the delegates will present on opportunities in the airports sector. Jarallah Alghrimeel - Assistant VP, Domestic Airports (GACA) - Assistant VP, Projects (GACA) - Director General, Aviation Security (GACA) - Airport Consultant, ZFP - Design Project Manager, Saudi Bin Laden Group. - General Manager Planning & Engineering, Safari And representation from the British Consulate-General in Jeddah: Mr Glyn Cartmell, Head of UKTI and Deputy Consul-General Jeddah Mohammed Arsalan Majeed, Senior Trade Officer (Airports), UKTI, British Consulate General, Jeddah The delegation has indicated the following areas are of particular interest: Airport Privatisation Airport Security Air Navigation Services (ANS) and their privatisation There will be scope to find out about GACA’s plans for current and future airport developments and they are also keen on: Master Planning / Design / Construction and Operations Systems, including APM and BHS Training Facilities Management Operational Readiness and Airport Transition Regulation The Draft Agenda for the visit is as follows: Mon 19th January 2015: Afternoon Industry Briefing by the delegation followed by questions and networking in central London (venue and details tbc). Opportunities: Due to the country’s size (Saudi Arabia is approx 9.5 times the size of the UK), long distances between major cities and limited other modes of public transport, aircraft are relied upon heavily for internal travel. Furthermore, some 8 million pilgrims travel through Jeddah and Medina every year on their way to Makkah, and demand will continue to increase as the Saudi population is expected to reach 39 million in 2020 and 47 million in 2030. There are four international and 26 regional/domestic airports in Saudi Arabia with a total throughput in 2008 of 39 million passengers; a number which is forecast to rise to 45m by 2017. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) is responsible for managing US$15 billion investment the government has earmarked for airport development and expansion plans over the next three years. Opportunities are expected to be forthcoming at Saudi’s regional airports and continued future plans for the three hubs (Jeddah, Medina and Riyadh). There are also airport security requirements across the Kingdom.
