SS 8 China Unit Assignment: THE SILK ROAD
Canada’s trade with China is set to increase dramatically. For this reason, it is becoming
increasingly important to understand China’s trading history. China’s international trade – and
one of the first instances of globalization! -- begins with THE SILK ROAD, a trading route that
began during the Han Dynasty that reached as far as Western Europe.
Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has asked for a scrapbook of information about THE SILK
ROAD. Your group will choose 6 out of the 10 of the following expert areas to produce work
work for the scrap work. You will include one WORKS CITED page listing all the resources you
used for the project.
Group size: 3 – 4 people (the work of groups of 4 members will be expected to be a higher
caliber)

Creative Writer
Write a journal entry/ graphic novel for a Silk Road trader entering a trading post. What
is the trader’s motivation? What are the sights, smells, tastes, feelings, and sounds of a
trading post such as Dunhuang, Khotan, Kroraina, Miran, Gaochang.

Analyze one piece of art from each dynasty: Shang/Zhou, Chin/ Han and Tang.

religion, convince people about a subject, , 4) and the audience the art is intendend for.
